Maia Gaffney-Hyde (2020)

Wood engraving on Awagami Kitikata 36g paper, packaged and mounted size between 7.5 x 10-11 cm (A7), signed and dated edition of 10 in Burnt Umber.

Print based on an Eskimo miniature whale carved out of walrus ivory. Dating to the Punuk era; c. AD 500-1200 and found at Cape Prince of Wales on the Bering Strait. Thought to be based on a Bowhead whale, the carving may have been attached to hunting equipment or ritual objects. '68: The Blanket' refers to the chapter in Moby Dick, on the 'skin' of a whale.
